What's Up Wednesday: March 12

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop created by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk to help writers stay in touch. It was spring for two days and now it's nine degrees and the wind chill is negative something. It's sunny so it looks nice out but I know that it's not. Fingers crossed that this is winter's farewell. Also to everyone getting even more snow, stay warm and safe.
What I'm Reading: 
I finished Seraphina by Rachel Hartman last week and if you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it. Beautifully imagined world, characters that I never want to let go of, and great voice. Also dragons.  Now I'm onto The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (I must admit that I've never read any of his work before) and while I was thrown off by the style at first, I'm really starting to get into it now.

What I'm Writing: 
Siren is coming along very slowly, but steadily. I'm already seeing a lot of things about the opening that need to be fixed in revisions, but that's okay. I also have some ideas for how to fix my old NaNo project, Hacker, so I might start looking at that again soon. It needs a lot of work but the MC that the novel takes it's nickname from is one of my favorites I've ever written so she makes it worth it.

What Inspires Me: 
I was going to say the arrival of spring, but it turned out to be doing a quick drive-by. I'm drawing a bit of a blank.

What Else I've Been Up To: 
The class list for next semester was released yesterday so I spent more time than I should have scrolling through it and working out potential schedules. I was excited for about five seconds until I realized three of the classes I want to take are at the exact same time. The idea of picking classes is also kind of terrifying because I'm going to be a senior and I have every intention of graduating on time in the spring.

Hello, Rachael! I haven't yet read Seraphina, but it's on my to-read list. I hope you continue enjoying The Graveyard Book! I really loved Stardust by Neil Gaiman (so I recommend that one for your next) and I also liked Gaiman's Coraline and Good Omens, which was written with Terry Pratchett.

I have THE GRAVEYARD BOOK on my shelf, so I'll read it... soon. I enjoyed NEVERWHERE, so I expect great things from Mr. Gaiman. :)

Spring's doing a bit of a drive-by here today, too. We've had two days of 70 degree weather. Tonight it'll be in the 30s, and tomorrow's high's in the 40s. That's cold for those of us down here. :)

Three classes at the same time? I bet you'd love a time turner... ;)

Seraphina is on my Kindle wishlist. I think I'm going to be buying it for real soon :P

I remember what it was like to have all the classes I wanted to take fall in the same time slot. Ugh. Hope you're able to work everything out.

I loved SERAPHINA too, and it's killing me that the sequel won't be out until 2015. I'll definitely have to do a re-read before then.

I loved The Graveyard Book. I listened to the audiobook, which was so good. It was read by Neil Gaiman. Good luck with revisions. Have a great weekend!

RTW -- Picking Titles

Road Trip Wednesday is a "Blog Carnival," where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic. This Week's Topic: How do you pick your titles? I don't really have a secret for picking titles. Basically my method is to wait until something pops into my head that sounds good to me. Sometimes that title might not even really fit the book or feel exactly right, but to me it's just a working title until I think of something better. Burning Bridges was the first thing to pop into my head when I started the first draft and needed something to name the folder. I don't know why it popped into my head because I don't really see a connection between the book and the title, but it's stuck through every one of the three drafts. Monday Updates: July 29

This is my last Monday Updates post. As of next Monday, I'm going to start up my college tips weekly blog on Mondays, since it's almost the school year.  Song of the Week: Here's to Us by Halestorm How's Life? Well, there are only two days left in July and I'm still trying to figure out where the rest of my summer went. Seriously, it can't almost be August, can it? How's TV?  Watched the series finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Friday. There was a point in the middle where I wanted to just stop because I didn't want the series to end. It was a fantastic finale, definitely one of my favorites. Now I'm trying to decide which on my long list should I watch next. Silver Linings Playbook is an amazing movie.
