Snow White and the Huntsman Review

I promised a full review of Snow White and the Huntsman last week and so here it is. WARNING: There are spoilers beyond this point. Okay, first of all, it was a good movie and I fully intend to own it when it comes out on DVD, but it could have been so much greater than it was. The majority of the cast was incredible. Charlize Theron made a brilliant queen. She actually made me feel kind of sorry for the queen despite hating her so much. The part where she turns back into her human form after being a flock of crows is just beautiful. And the part where they show her as a child and how her power was tied to her beauty was a great addition. Chris Hemsworth nailed the part of the Huntsman and he looked hot doing it. He's such a great actor, being able to play the part of the drunkard, the huntsman, and the grieving widower all in the same movie. Sam Claflin made a flawless Prince William. His acting was amazing and the expressions on his face made me melt. I loved the s...

Hunger Games Movie Review

***SPOILER WARNING*** To give a little background, I've read the entire Hunger Games trilogy and I adore it. I tend to be very loyal to my books and harsh on their movies. This one was no different: I had extremely high expectations. Because of the internal nature of the books, I was worried about how that would translate to film. This movie exceeded all my expectations. It was BRILLIANT. I had a few key scenes that I was desperate to see them get right and they nailed them. The Girl on Fire chariot scene was excellent and so was the interview. I was worried when I saw her interview dress in the previews (being that it looks very little like it's supposed to) but it was actually perfect. The scene with Katniss shooting the apple during her private session with the Gamemakers was spot on. And then, there was Rue. Her death scene shattered my heart. I actually started sobbing when District Eleven gave tribute to Katniss while watching her on the screen. That was beauti...

Footloose: The Old and the New

This weekend my campus did a screening of the original Footloose and the new one and I watched both of them in a row. I've seen the original before but this was my first time seeing the new version. SPOILER WARNING: There are spoilers for both movies. Though I'm not sure why you wouldn't have seen them yet. I expected the new version to be terrible, to say the least. The original was one of my favorite movies of all time and I didn't expect the remake to be able to hold a candle to it. I was surprised. The new version is actually really good. Though in most cases I prefer the original songs better, I'm glad that they just remade most of the songs instead of making entirely new music. I actually preferred some of the new scenes to the originals. For example, the fight scene before the dance. Ariel was awesome in that scene. I also love the part with the car from the original movie. That scene was great. On the other hand, I didn't like some of the changes. I di...

Deathly Hallows-2

****WARNING LOTS OF SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT**** I'm going to be completely honest here. Deathly Hallows was great, but it could have been incredible. The book is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, it was definitely worth seeing, and I will watch it again when it comes out on DVD. I just think it could have been better. Things I Liked: The added scene in Snape's memories where Snape is holding Lily after she died. It tore my heart apart. Neville's speech. It was amazing. Snape's memories. Molly killing Bellatrix. It was everything I could have hoped for and more. Helena Bonham Carter. She is amazing. The part where Hermione is disguised as Bellatrix is BRILLIANT. The epilogue. Though I wish they'd shown Teddy! Neville saying that he needs to go tell Luna he loves her because he could die before he gets another chance. The Slytherins being sent to the dungeons. I'm a little undecided on this point, but it was kind of awesome. The part where ...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Movie Review

First the non-spoilery review. Part one was AWESOME. End of story. Good-bye. The end. (Virtual cookie to anyone who can tell me what that's from.) It didn't meet my insanely high expectations, but that's mostly because it was build-up for what's coming in part two. It'll be a lot better when the two parts come together. It was still worth stayed up until three in the morning and being exhausted in school the next day. SO. FREAKING. COOL. I'm hoping to go see it again Wednesday night. Eight months until part two! WARNING. THERE ARE LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF SPOILERS COMING. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE SPOILERS, CLICK THAT LITTLE RED X RIGHT NOW. Things I Liked The part at the beginning where Hermione wipes her parent's memories. I'm really glad they added that part. Ron. I think Rupert was my favorite actor in this movie. He was SO GOOD. Fred and George. Enough said. Ginny. She's better in this movie than the last one, trust me. The part where Gi...

How to Train Your Dragon Review

I am not ashamed to say I went to see How to Train Your Dragon yesterday. And it was awesome. One of the best "kid's" movies I've ever seen. I seriously want a Night Fury. Toothless was so cute. :) And Astrid was so bad-a. It made me feel better after last week's rant about female characters in bad relationships. The 3-D didn't really add anything most of the time, but there were parts where I did enjoy having that extra effect. Overall: 8/10. I want to see it again and I'm definitely getting it on DVD. There's also a book. Which I might look for. OHHH MY GOSH! They had a preview for Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Why wasn't I informed that they were going to make the book into a movie? If the movie is half as good as the book (and according to the trailer it will be that and more), it's going to be AMAZING.

Lightning Thief Review

I'm doing two reviews of LT. This first one is almost completely disregarding what I know from the book. The second one covers everything that I can think of that they changed. Both have spoilers, the second one more than the first. The first one was written while I was still on my post-movie high just so you know. Disregarding the book: It was great! Special effects were amazing, I still hated some parts of it because they didn't make a lot of sense (or that might just be the book talking). I'm definitely getting this one on DVD. I haven't decided yet how I feel about Luke. He's cute and all, but I still can't decide if I want to push him off the Empire State Building or love him. I love Annabeth though, she's awesome. Though I wish they'd emphasized her more of a daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom than the goddess of war. Oh, and Percy and Luke's fight on the Empire State Building: epic! 7/10 Regarding the book: Things that were Added: The ...

Half-Blood Prince Review

Yep, I was there. At midnight. With everyone else. Now I only had four hours of sleep and I seem to be having trouble thinking so if I get incoherent, I apologize. I warn you, there will be spoilers. Lots and lots of spoilers. Even a few from Deathly Hallows, but if you haven't read that by now I don't know why you're here. GO! READ! NOW! (It's my favorite one of the series.) General Overview: *screams* IT WAS AWESOME! Hands down, best one yet. Unless you're my mother who didn't particularly like it and only gave it a 5/10. I gave it a 9/10. Which is weird because usually it would be the other way around, but that's beside the point. Non-Spoiler Comments: They could've followed the book closer is all I'm going to say. I'm glad that I didn't read it prior to seeing the movie because then I probably would've had a lot more to complain about on the way home. They seemed to vaguely follow the book's plot, but as for most of the story...

Went to the movies today

Went to the movies and saw Race to Witch Mountain. *spoilers ahead* Very awesome movie. Good acting, good graphics, good plot. And I will say that the part where Seth stands in front of the car and it blows up around him is very, very awesome. You just have to route for the aliens this time. They strange thing about the movie is it begins with all the footage of supposed "actual" UFO sightings. Which apparently there is a lot more of than I was aware. Ending = amazing. I am not ashamed to admit that my eyes may have "watered" a little bit when the alien kids left. You just have to miss them even if they are going home. So if you haven't seen it, I recommend it.
