RTW: Welcome to the Avengers Initiative

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic. We'd love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link - or, if you prefer, you can include your answer in the comments.

This Week's Topic:
In our Bookmobile selection this month, Amy Tintera's REBOOT, the main character has died and been reborn as a robot-like soldier. If you were reborn faster, stronger, and quicker healing, what's the first thing you'd do?

When I thought about this topic on Sunday (which is when I usually schedule my blog posts for the week) I was at a complete loss. Then today I came back to thinking about it.

My first thought was Buffy. I've been working my way through the series (I'm on season three now) and that's basically what happened when she was born the Slayer. Then I thought of the Avengers as I often do (I think I've seen that movie at least twice a month since it came out on DVD).

I wouldn't want to be like Iron Man or Captain America or Superman or Spiderman or Batman. I'm not really down with the supersoldier idea or fighting crime as a masked superhero. I would go for a kind of cross between Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Agent Coulson.

I wouldn't mind being a superspy like Black Widow (though not an assassin) or a SHIELD agent like Phil Coulson. And I definitely wouldn't say no to Hawkeye's skill with a bow.

And getting out of the realm of Avengers, if I could find some way to make loads of money with my newfound powers, I would buy a couple eventing horses and work my way up in the sport. My quicker healing would have the added benefit of taking away some of the worry about getting injured in a fall, especially on the fairly insane cross-country courses in the higher levels.

(For the non-horse savvy, eventing is a sport in which the horse and rider compete in three events--dressage, cross-country, and show jumping--with the goal of incurring the least number of penalties. Low-level competitions typically occur over the course of one day, whereas higher levels are spread across three (sometimes four) days.)

Buffy is great. She is such a strong and empowering icon. Great choice.

I can see how accelerated healing can help someone who rides horses. And since they are expensive, extra money is a definite plus for equestrians.

Happy riding! :)

Aha another horsey person! I like your thinking with competing in eventing. At the moment, touch wood, I seem to be super-sticky and haven't yet fallen off a horse since I learnt to ride eleven years ago. But, I can imagine that ability would be tested if I ever started eventing. Some of those falls in cross-country are amazing, aren't they?!
I was thinking of the Avengers too. I'd love to have the skills to kick the bad guys butts, although I probably wouldn't want the danger that life would bring.
