RTW: Best Book of June

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic. We'd love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link - or, if you prefer, you can include your answer in the comments.
This Week's Topic:
What's the best book you read in June?

I'm going to be honest. I finished three books this month and I don't feel right about putting any of them on this post. I've been in a reading slump and haven't read anything that I've really loved in quite a long time.

So to cleanse my reading palate I decided to reread a book that I knew I would love. And that's the book that I'm going to choose for this month. I haven't actually finished it yet, but I'm close and definitely will before the end of the month.

Paper Towns
by John Green

I love this book. It's so true to life and clever and the writing is stunning. It was the first John Green book I ever read and I'm still hooked. It's still one of my favorite books that I've ever read and it hasn't lost anything in the second reading.

I haven't read this yet, but my daughter has it, so I daresay I will soon. I can't say I love John Green's books, but my issues with him are more worldview/philosophical. I can't argue with the fact that he is a fine writer--probably the finest YA Contemporary writer alive. Reading his novels is always an education on how to write this genre.
I felt the same way. I read 8 books this month and while all were good, even great, none were AMAZING, and I kinda sorta wanted to be amazed.

I haven't read this one by John Green yet, thanks for the rec.

I've read The Fault in Our Stars and am looking forward to getting hold of another John Green. I've heard a lot of good things about Paper Towns, so I'm thinking that one will be next!

I hate to admit this, but I haven't read any of John Green's books. I know I should, but there's something about them that doesn't appeal to me. I'm curious. If you were going to recommend one of his books for a person like me to read, which one would it be?

Christine - That's a tricky question. I usually recommend starting with either LOOKING FOR ALASKA or PAPER TOWNS. In my opinion, LFA is the better of the two, but PT is my personal favorite (partly because I got to it first).

I'm actually not the hugest fan of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, but it's a fantastic book and a good choice if you don't like the idea of "boy chasing strange girl" premises.

There's also AN ABUNDANCE OF KATHERINES which is a good book in its own right but not my favorite by him.

If you like David Levithan, he co-authored WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON with John Green so that might be a good one to start with just to get a feel for his style.

Hopefully you get out of the reading slump. I hate settling down for a book and feeling kind of 'meh' about it at the end. The last new book that I read that blew me away was Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (great if you're into light fantasy books).
