RTW: Tick Tock Time to Write

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

This Week's Topic:
What time do you prefer to do your writing?

I write anytime inspiration strikes and I have time and access to a computer. I've never really had a set writing schedule. However, I am typically a night owl. I've been known to not write a single word all day and then stay up until three in the morning because inspiration struck and I couldn't stop writing.

Psychologically, night has always kind of been my "play" time and day has always been my "work" time. Because of that, I write more during the night and revise more during the day. I have a lot of work that needs to get done during the day so when night hits, my brain knows it's time to settle in and have some free time.

I've tried to set aside a specific time for writing, but it hasn't really worked out. I'm probably going to try again once I'm at college because I don't know how easy it'll be to find time to write when there's so much else to do.

My absolute favorite time to write is oddly specific: after dinner during a thunderstorm. I'm not sure what I find so inspirational about thunderstorms but I hate watching the truly fantastic ones we've had the past few weeks go by knowing I can't write.

I don't really have a set schedule, either. I've tried, but inevitably things come up or whatever. So now I just try to write when I have time.

Thunderstorms totally inspire me, too. I love writing with the pitter-patter of rain on the windowsill, dark skies outside, and the comforting rumble of thunder that says: "It's totally cool if you just want to stay inside all day long today."

I have to write in the mornings. Or I go off for a few hours in the afternoon. But I can totally see your inspirational by thunderstorm writing. I love a good rainstorm.

Yay, night owls ftw! I usually write at night after dinner (though I haven't been writing regularly lately), and I don't schedule writing time either, except maybe during NaNo. So either late afternoon or evening for me.

I don't actually stay up that late because I need about 9 hours of sleep to stay sane and not grumpy during the school year, but in the summer I like to stay up late.

As for specific time, I also like writing when it's raining, but I like writing during Christmas Break when it's snowy and cold outside. I don't know why.
