RTW: Inspirational Places

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

This week's topic:
What is the most inspiring setting you've ever visited in real life?

Most of my books take place in imagined towns or even countries. However, I recently went to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (which we call "the U.P.") and I'm dying to write a story set there. I'm a little biased, but I think it's the most gorgeous place in the world. There's nothing quite like standing on the rocks overlooking Lake Superior and watching the sun go down.

I tried to download pictures from my phone, but my phone apparently doesn't like this laptop.

Oh, the U.P.! I've only been once, but I have very fond memories. Some of the only water I LIKE.

Gorgeous photos, I can see why you find the place so inspiring! :)

Oh wow. Those photos are gorgeous. I love looking at all these beautiful pictures, but they're inspiring me to put a massive sinkhole in my checking account. Too many new places I want to see!

YES. I can't believe I left this out of my post (I totally cheated, gave five places, and STILL didn't put the UP). My dad grew up in Munising, and so we went up every summer to visit. Picking blueberries and camping and fishing. Such an amazing landscape, but most of all, there's just a quiet there that it's hard to find elsewhere. Love it.

One time we were driving back to my Grandma's, and as the sun was going down on Lake Superior, the water and the sky became the exact same color. You couldn't make out the horizon at all, it was just a big field of sky. We didn't take a picture, but I'll keep that image in my brain as long as I live.
