Wake Review

Wake by Lisa McMann

Summary: For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.

She can't tell anybody about what she does--they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.

Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant....

Review: Hopefully my mom's getting Fade tomorrow and I'll be able to read it Sunday...Anyway, Wake is awesome. The main thing I had a problem with is the way the story is told is kind of strange. It's third person present tense which I don't think I've ever read before and is fairly jarring. Also the way she skips ahead in time takes a few chapters to get used to. Otherwise you're just sitting there thinking 'What? What's happening?'

The characters are great. I loved Cabel from the very beginning, even when he seemed like the 'bad boy' and I should've been against him and Janie getting together. But I wasn't. I almost 'Awwww-ed' out loud several times during class when I was reading it, but I had to stop myself and wait until I got home to finish it. It was just so sweet! I spent the whole story cheering for him and then at the end with the twist...I did not see that coming. Oh, and I like Cabel's name. But I don't like it when she calls him Cabe.

I'm still stuck at the beginning! But I'll push myself past it so I can read about the relationship you mentioned. Good review!
